May 30, 2012 · Multicast, the way it is supposed to work: The source server (red) sending the same stream to multiple, but not all, receivers (green). Turns out, my dd-wrt-powered Cisco E2000 router is--out of the box--not that intelligent and, like most consumer devices, will turn such multicast packets simply into broadcast packets.
I just tried the Shibby's tomato for a few days, overall the router's signal is much stronger. So I guess default signal power setting with dd-wrt is higher than tomato. So I flashed back to dd-wrt. Here is my settings, at least it is working. All AC devices tied to 5G1, N to 5G. Here is the manual's pdf text: Filter Multic IGMP snooping on L2 switch for Multicast network in the Access Layer. Note: The gateway router must support IGMP proxy/query function or IGMP snooping on L2 switch will not work as expected. Topology: Target/Requirement: Using a TP-Link L2 switch’s IGMP snooping feature to build up a L2 multicast network to avoid broadcast of multicast data.
When a host wants to start receiving UDP multicast traffic, it needs to subscribe itself to a “UDP multicast group”. In IPv4 Control of multicast groups is achieved with IGMP protocol. In IPv6 its accomplished with special Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) packets in the ICMPv6 protocol. Once a host is subscribed, all the traffic for this group is sent to it using broadcast L2 frames.
IGMP packets are transmitted using IP multicast group addresses as follows: • IGMP general queries are destined to the address 224.0.0.1 (all systems on a subnet). • IGMP group-specific queries are destined to the group IP address for which the router is querying. I have scripts that run IP multicast tests; however, my scripts are failing on a particular linux machine. I know that I can look at CONFIG_IP_MULTICAST in the kernel configuration file to determine If you want to stream media using DLNA to wireless connected PS3 or XBOX you must enable UPnP on your wiress router. Routers with DD-WRT Firmware support UPnP. To enable UPnP on dd-wrt router, connect to router through the browser, go to NAT/Qos, UPnP page and select UPnP service radio button. If you are looking for how to stream media using
